Osteopathic treatment should be a positive experience, during which you feel completely comfortable at all times.
This begins by knowing what to expect at your first appointment.

Arriving at the Clinic

Upon arriving at the clinic, I will let you in and ask you to wait in the waiting area if I am currently treating another patient.

Case History and Initial Examination

At the beginning of your session, I will ask you to describe your problem, take a brief medical history, and ask some questions about your lifestyle. By providing me with this information I will be able to identify the causes of the problem. Sometimes the causes might be obvious (e.g., in the case of injury), and sometimes it might be more complicated (e.g., in the case of referred pain).

I will carry out an initial examination where I will assess the area of your issue.  Where necessary, a more global examination will be conducted to see if there are any other areas of tightness, inflexibility or tenderness, which could be causing or contributing to your problem.

I will want you to feel at ease at all times, so you are more than welcome to wear comfortable clothes such as shorts/leggings, a top/t-shirt, or loose-fitting garments. I will never expect you to remove any item of clothing that you do not wish to.

Diagnosis and Discussion

Once I have taken your case history and carried out a physical examination, I will be able to diagnose your problem, explain what is wrong and how it can be treated. I will explain what treatment is right for you, give you an idea of how many sessions you will need, and what improvements you can expect over what time period.

Treatment

Your first session consists of a diagnosis and case history followed by a full osteopathic treatment session. This will typically involve joint manipulation, stretching, massage and mobilisation. Medical Acupuncture may also be used alongside these techniques to help with joint and muscle pain, but it is always optional and only included if you are comfortable with it.

I will normally also give you exercises or stretches to do at home, reinforcing the benefits of the treatment session, and advice on things like posture and workstation setup. This all helps you to continue getting better in between sessions and avoid more problems in the future.

My goal is to make sure you feel safe, comfortable, and supported throughout your treatment.
