Aches and Pains

Most of us will suffer from aches and pains at some point in our lives. Osteopathy can be used to treat any generalised aches and pains you may be suffering from, particularly such as back aches and neck aches which are often caused by poor posture, maybe when working, driving, or relaxing.

Joint Pain (hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, etc.)

Osteopathy can help you with many types of joint pain, whether caused through general overuse, a direct trauma or sporting injury, osteoarthritis, or referred pain from a problem elsewhere in the body. We can also treat conditions like frozen shoulder or “tennis elbow”.

Minor Sports Injuries

We can also help you with many different sports injuries, whether it is as a result of direct trauma (e.g. a bad football tackle) or due to fatigue or repetition (e.g. pain in the sole of the foot after running).

Chronic Conditions

There are certain chronic conditions for which Osteopathy has been shown to be an effective treatment, helping to manage the condition and improving your quality of life. These include sciatica, neuralgia, rheumatic pain, fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis.

Osteopathy During Pregnancy

A woman’s body changes during pregnancy. These changes include the softening of ligaments, weight increase and changes to posture. This can lead to additional pressure on joints in various parts of the body, including the spine or pelvis. This in turn, can lead to problems like backaches and joint pain, which can be treated with Osteopathy. Osteopaths also sometimes work alongside lactation consultants to give postural advice related to breastfeeding.

Osteopathy and Babies

Undergraduate training for Osteopaths includes paediatrics, and Osteopaths are qualified to work with babies and children. Babies’ skeletons are softer than an adult’s and Osteopaths will, therefore, use gentler techniques such as cranial Osteopathy when treating babies. Cranial techniques are safe, gentle, and non-manipulative, and are often used when treating young children and newborn infants.

If you’re not sure whether Osteopathy is the right treatment for your particular problem, see below for a list of problems we commonly treat, or contact me to discuss your symptoms in confidence. I’ll be happy to guide you in whether Osteopathy can help you.
